Frequently Asked Questions

About Our Teas

What types of tea do you sell?

Lalchand Babulal offers a wide range of premium Indian teas including CTC Assam teas (across multiple grades), Darjeeling teas (first flush, autumn flush, green, oolong), specialty loose leaf teas (Earl Grey, White Tea, Green Tea), herbal blends (Tulsi, Chamomile, Ginger), chai blends (Kadak Chai, Assam Chai, Bombay Cutting Chai), and curated Shreevari grade samplers for wholesale and retail buyers.

Where are your teas sourced from?

Our teas are sourced directly from the finest tea-growing regions of India — primarily Assam and Darjeeling. The Shreevari range comes from a single estate known for consistent quality across multiple CTC grades. Our specialty and herbal teas are carefully selected from trusted gardens and blenders across India.

What is the shelf life of your teas?

Most of our teas have a shelf life of 18–24 months from the date of manufacture when stored correctly. To preserve freshness, store your tea in an airtight container away from direct sunlight, moisture, and strong odours. Avoid storing near spices or other strongly scented items.

Are your teas suitable for wholesale orders?

Yes! The Shreevari range is specifically designed for wholesalers, retailers, tea blenders, and food-service operators. We offer multiple grades across the Shreevari, Shreevari Special, Shreevari Premium, Shreevari 24 Carat, and Shreevari Garden Leaf sub-ranges. Please contact us at lalchandbabulal@gmail.com to discuss wholesale pricing and minimum order quantities.

Brewing Guide

How do I brew CTC tea or chai?

For a classic Indian chai, use 1–2 teaspoons of CTC tea per cup. Combine with equal parts water and milk, bring to a boil, add sugar to taste, and simmer for 2–4 minutes until the chai is deep, rich, and fragrant. For a black cup, brew with boiling water (100°C) for 3–4 minutes. Strain and serve immediately.

How do I brew loose leaf green or white tea?

Use water heated to 70–80°C (not boiling) to preserve the delicate flavour of green and white teas. Steep for 2–3 minutes. Avoid over-steeping, which can introduce bitterness. These teas are best enjoyed without milk or sugar to fully appreciate their natural character. The leaves can often be re-steeped 2–3 times.

How do I brew Darjeeling or oolong tea?

Use water at 85–90°C and steep for 3–4 minutes. Darjeeling and oolong teas are best enjoyed without milk to fully appreciate their floral, muscatel, and fruity notes. Oolong leaves can be re-steeped multiple times, with each infusion revealing a slightly different character.
